We are so proud to have Annalise Hanger as part of our DLC community and honestly, we’re a little in awe of her.
A Creative Force on Campus
Annalise is a second-year Bachelor of Laws student, a Yorta Yorta woman from Victoria, and one of those people who somehow fits more into a year than most of us manage in five. In the last twelve months, alongside her studies she has designed jerseys for four Oztag teams, taken on commissioned artwork, created birthday cards for DLC, and landed her designs on the uniforms for the Indigenous Nationals.

This artwork represents the coming together as one. Each of us carries a story that
guides us forward and encourages growth and change. The transitional periods of our
lives are reflected in this drawing, capturing movement, connection, and
transformation
Her art draws on culture, identity and connection, which are themes that run deep for Annalise and show up in everything she makes. There’s a real warmth to her work, and a sense of story behind each piece. Annalise’s artwork captures connection beautifully, showcasing movement, connection, and the moments of growth that shape who we become.
A Little Piece of Home
Here at DLC we’ve been lucky enough to experience this firsthand. Annalise has designed the birthday cards that our staff hand-write to every single student in the college each year. Having Annalise’s artwork on our cards is incredibly special. Having work from a student who pours her heart into everything she creates, making something for the community that every student gets to keep.

This image reflects gratitude for Dharug Ngurra, which we are privileged to stand upon.
We must honour the old people of this land for their protection, teachings, and
guidance, as we move forward with gentle footsteps and open hearts.
Showing Up for Community
Annalise came to Macquarie through the Walanga Muru Indigenous Pathways program, drawn by a passion for Indigenous studies and a desire to address the socioeconomic gaps facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Law is one way she’s pursuing that. Art is turning out to be another. And off campus, she’s also serving as the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Representative on Macquarie’s Student Representative Council.
The Oztag jerseys are a particular highlight for Annalise, she designed them for the very teams she plays with, so she gets to wear her own work on the field. Her Walanga Muru project will also feature on Indigenous Nationals uniforms this year.

We have each travelled our own paths to call this place home, leaving tracks along the
way. This image represents the many journeys that brought us here, and the many ways
we will continue forward together.
Her friends have learned to expect the unexpected. “They’re always like, oh my god, what next, what have you done now,” she laughs. “They always ask me what I’m doing, what’s the next project. Top secret.”
We can’t wait to find out what it is.
