DLC has been around since the 1970s, so we know the questions most commonly asked by students and their families.
Application
We typically offer undergraduate accommodation to those planning on studying at Macquarie University in Sydney. This includes both domestic and international students.
Applying to live at DLC is easy and happens in four simple steps:
- Apply – Complete your application form online here.
- Casual Chat – Shortly after submitting your application, you’ll be invited to have a casual chat with a member of our team. This is an opportunity for us to get to know you, answer any questions you may have and tell you more about life at DLC.
- Offer – Following your chat, we’ll be in touch by email with the outcome of your application and, where a place is available, an offer of accommodation at DLC.
- Accept – Secure your place by paying your deposit and completing your Acceptance Offer form

Domestic students can move into college before turning 18. International students must be 18 or older to move in, but can reserve a place ahead of time, subject to availability. It’s always worth applying early and exploring your options with us.
No, you don’t need to have an offer from Macquarie University before applying to DLC. In fact, applying early can help you get everything organised sooner.
Once you have your letter of offer, we simply ask that you send it over to admissions@dlc.nsw.edu.au.
Please note, if you do not receive an offer to study at Macquarie University, your deposit will be refunded in full.
The College offers accommodation for primarily undergraduate students. However, if you are under the age of 25 and are a postgraduate student, please send an enquiry to our admissions team – admissions@dlc.nsw.edu.au
If you have uploaded all the documentation and had your chat with one of the team it takes less than a week for your application to be approved, pending availability.
If you cancel your application before the cut-off date (see the dates attached to your offer letter), you are refunded what you have paid, minus $150.
If you cancel closer to move-in day, you are refunded what you have paid minus $450.
If you cancel on or after move-in day, this is considered breaking your contract.
If you cancel because you did not receive an offer to study from Macquarie University, you will receive a full refund with evidence.
Living at Dunmore Lang College
Move in day is jam packed with everything you need to get settled at Dunmore Lang College. We prefer if students arrive on the day, but if your circumstances don’t allow for this, please email our admissions team to discuss your options.
The College is fully catered, with all meals included in your fees. We also offer late meal requests for students who may miss a scheduled mealtime due to extracurricular activities or other commitments.
For those occasions when you’d like to prepare your own meal, there are three kitchenettes conveniently located throughout the College.
At DLC you will have your own personal, fully furnished room, including bed, mattress, desk, chair, pinboard, and wardrobe. Each room comes with a heater and built-in fan. You are welcome to decorate your room and make it feel like home.
Our shared ensuite and private ensuite rooms also come with an armchair and mini fridge.
You can choose your preferred room type when applying to College. For first-year students, individual rooms are allocated by the College to ensure a balanced mix of students throughout the College, taking a range of factors into consideration.
Returning students are able to request a preferred floor, and we will always do our best to accommodate your first choice.

In addition to your personal fully furnished room, we have shared kitchenettes and common rooms where residents can relax and hang out with friends.
We have several recreational areas where residents can watch TV, play pool and table tennis, and practise their musical skills in our music room.
There are a number of quiet study spaces available for individual or group use with a whiteboard and large tables.
We also have beautiful outdoor spaces and are only a short stroll from the Macquarie shopping centre.
Depending on availability, you may be able to stay at College during the recess break for an additional cost. The Admissions team will email you a form to indicate your move-out date and whether you would like to remain at College during the break. Please complete and return the form by the due date to give yourself the best chance of securing a room.
If you will be returning to College for the next Semester you can store a small quantity of your belongings in the store room on your current floor (up to 2 suitcases worth). Your room will need to be completely vacated for any incoming occupant.
If you are vacating College (and not returning) you will need to take everything with you.

No. Dunmore Lang College and Macquarie University are both smoke-free environments. There is no smoking on campus including vapes.
No. We have very limited parking at College which is reserved for staff, conference guests, and some of our student leaders. Very reasonably priced University parking is available a short walk from College.
Yes, all residents will have access to on-site laundry facilities. We ask that you bring your own laundry detergent to use at College.
Please note that an additional charge applies to use of the College laundry facilities.
Absolutely! Many students choose to stay at DLC throughout their university degree, so you can apply to return for subsequent years.
As you progress through College, there are also plenty of opportunities to get more involved in the DLC community and take on leadership roles. In your second year, you can apply to join a College Committee or become a member of the Association of Dunmore Lang College Students (ADS) to help plan the social calendar. From third year onwards, you can also apply to become a Resident Adviser (RA) and take on a leadership role within the College.
There are lots of ways to get involved, make an impact and take on new opportunities as you progress through your time at DLC!
We are a 5 minute walk from Macquarie University Campus.
Alongside this, the Macquarie Shopping Centre and Metro to the city are also located a short 5 minute walk away!
Costs
The Accommodation Security Deposit is $990. A minimum of $150 is required within one week of receiving your offer to secure your place.
Your Accommodation Security Deposit is refundable at the end of your stay, provided your room passes inspection and any outstanding charges are paid.
Should you choose to defer your offer for a calendar year or more, you will forfeit your deposit.

You can pay your College accommodation fees in one of two ways:
1. Pay upfront for the whole Semester either by bank transfer or EFTPOS machine.
2. Pay by Edstart (Domestic Students Only).
Yes! We offer a range of scholarships to support students throughout their time at DLC. Applications typically open in September for the following year, with closing dates varying between scholarships.

No, if you decide to break your contract you will need to give 12 weeks’ notice and forfeit your deposit. If you are leaving because your exams have finished before the shift-out day, there is no refund for the days you are not here.
