On 3 May 2026, Dunmore Lang College students came together to shave, cut, colour and even wax their hair and facial hair in support of the World’s Greatest Shave. Our students raised an incredible $4,458 for leukaemia and blood cancer research.
Our Charity Committee organised the event. Students could sign up for a range of hair-related challenges. What started as a planned charity activity soon became a whole-college effort. Students and residents quickly joined in the excitement on the day.

The fundraising goal was set at $560, but the college far exceeded expectations, raising almost eight times the original target. The result was also more than double the $1,834 raised by students for the event last year.

How did the day go?
A highlight of the day was the auction, where students could bid on what participants would do with their hair. One student raised an impressive $671 alone to shave and bleach their hair, while Donni bravely joined in by shaving his eyebrows. The event saw a total of 25 students take part.

Samra cut and plaited her hair, with the hair being used to create a wig, while Hazel and Ruby chose to add some colour to their hair.
The involvement extended beyond the students who physically changed their hair. One and two west floors rallied together and donated around $430 to support the cause, demonstrating the strong community spirit behind the fundraiser.

Hannah played an important role in bringing the event together. She spearheaded the initiative on One and Two West as the Resident Adviser. She had also been involved with the Charity Committee last year. The committee promoted the fundraiser through social media. Jess also helped promote the event through the Dunmore Lang College social media page
“I chose to get involved to show support for my friends and raise awareness and money for cancer.”
– Tucker Collins, First Year Student at DLC

The event was part of the Charity Committee’s commitments. It also connected closely with the college’s Youth Representative for the World’s Greatest Shave.

“I wanted to get involved in the world’s greatest shave by deciding to auction off my hair, so I could help do my part and contribute to the leukaemia foundation.”
— Lachie Jenkins, Second Year DLC Student
The event was part of the Charity Committee’s commitments. It also connected closely with the college’s Youth Representative for the World’s Greatest Shave. The day became much more than a fundraising activity. It brought together students, floors, RAs and the wider college community. Together, the college raised an incredible $4,458. This shows what can be achieved when a community comes together for a good cause. At DLC, students proved they were willing to go above and beyond, one shave, snip and splash of colour at a time.
